OK, can I ask just a couple more questions?

What are therapy sessions like?

Each therapy session is unique; it’s your time for 50 minutes, so the content of the session will be largely dictated by how you are feeling in the moment.

In the session I will encourage you to talk about your struggles, your feelings and your goals and I will direct you to find the right answers from within. Once we have established enough trust, I use IFS (Internal Family Systems) tools to speak directly to the parts of you which are holding on to the pain, and help you to establish a deeper relationship with them.

Can I have a free session to try it out?

I offer a free 15 minute video consultation for us to check suitability, logistics and to discuss what you hope to achieve from therapy. I hope that within that 15 minute call you get a sense of who I am and whether you feel we are good fit to proceed with weekly therapy.

If you think you’ll need longer to get a sense of things, then I recommend booking a full session (charged at full rate) to get a feel for how I work.

How many therapy sessions will I need?

Each client is different- many people feel they have gained enough from 5 or 6 sessions to continue without it; others are in therapy for 12 months or more. It all depends on the client and the depth of what they are going through currently. I know that’s a bit vague, but it really depends on what’s going on for you. This isn’t a quick-fix, and clients tend to come to me when they’re looking to do deep, expansive work.

What training/experience do you have?

My basic training took place at Manchester College which led me to volunteer with a local charity. I switched to Bolton College to complete my full counsellor training.

I’ve trained in and integrated other approaches since qualifying, making my approach more directive than pure PCT (Person- Centred therapy).

More recently I have trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, which has become my focus.

I have a wealth of training in GSRD (Gender, Sex and Relationship Diversity) and I have thousands of hours experience of working with this client group.

I have delivered training on men’s mental health and have gained a vast amount of experience working with men in therapy.

I’m an accredited professional registrant of NCPS

How much do therapy sessions cost?

Sessions are priced at £80 for 50 minutes.

Hey, I’m Joe and I’ve been doing this therapy thing for nearly 10 years. I’ve achieved Accredited Professional membership with the NCPS, and also completed IFS level 1 with IFS UK, who are affiliated with the IFS Institute. I work face-to-face in Manchester City Centre, and can also work online if you’re based elsewhere across the UK or Europe.
