Why am I so angry?
Maybe you have every right to be angry? Maybe you've been treated poorly in the past; maybe you've fed up with selfish politicians letting the world burn whilst you're just about paying the bills each month. Maybe you've suffered minority stress, which isn't noticed or understood by people around you. Maybe anger is the only emotion you were shown as a child, or the only emotion which it was socially acceptable to express.
Now, anger is a very normal human emotion. Anger shows us exactly what we've had enough of and when we are ready to say no. Anger, when used correctly can be a very effective tool; anger can set boundaries, anger can communicate distress, anger can seek justice, an anger can even inspire greatness. The problem is when anger becomes the only emotion available. When anger is used without reason, gentleness or forethought.
IFS therapy teaches us that the anger is a protector; anger is a behaviour that is called upon to protect us from our deep, exiled pain and to stop this pain from overwhelming us. When anger is used as a protector we often find that it is judged by other parts within us. We have parts which are fed up of the anger and can see the damage the anger is causing us; these parts want the anger to go away.
Viewing all parts with compassion and curiosity, (including our angry parts!) can help us define some kind of balance within ourselves , curiosity gives us answers , curiosity can help anger to express itself without it, taking over.
If you're ready to explore all of this then give me a shout and we can arrange a call to get things moving. IFS therapy can be the key to you unlocking your anger, and using it only when it's really necessary.
